ENRICH Training workshop II: Fundraising & Grant writing

Date:

Friday, May 8, 2015 to Saturday, May 9, 2015

Venue:

MOI University, Nairobi, Kenya

The 2nd ENRICH Training workshop "Fundraising & Grant writing” has been hosted at MOI University in Nairobi, Kenya, on the 8th and 9th of May 2015. This workshop has been co-organised by MOI University and the University of Alicante (UA), coordinator of the ENRICH project.

The objective of the 2nd workshop was to introduce available and relevant EU/ international funding programmes, successful proposal writing and alternative means of attracting capital for carrying out research activities. The ultimate goal is to become less dependent on restricted state / university fund, and become financially sustainable.

The workshop has provided good practice examples and has stimulated discussions around the following main topics: fundraising, Project Cycle Management (PCM), grant writing and project ideas.

The main objectives of the training were:

  • To develop a fundraising strategy within their institutions and become financially sustainable.
  • To draft project proposals for any international cooperation programme (H2020, Erasmus+).
  • To implement a standard project management and development approach.

The workshop was attended by more than 30 people: the ENRICH Higher Education Institution (HEI) partners from Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania, one representative from the Directorate of Research Management and Development (DRMD) of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology of Kenya and two representatives from the Uganda National Council for Science and Technology.

Participants (top management and researchers, particularly in the energy field) will be involved in the establishment of three Science Technology and Innovation (STI) Support National Networks, one in each partner country (Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania) and will adapt the training content to local context so they can replicate the training received within their universities.

The workshop was combined with a coordination meeting, in which UA presented the up-to-date workplan and goals of the ENRICH project and the next workshop that will take place in Tanzania.

The 1st ENRICH training workshop on “Research Support Offices and Policies & Procedures” was hosted at Makere University, Kampala, Uganda, last February 2015. It provided good practice examples and stimulated discussions around the following main topics: research evaluation, research management and innovation and was provided by the ENRICH EU partners, Glasgow Caledonian University and UA.
