2nd ENRICH Training workshop "Fundraising & Grant writing”
The 2nd ENRICH Training workshop "Fundraising & Grant writing” will take place at MOI University in Nairobi, Kenya, on the 8th and 9th of May 2015. This workshop is being co-organised by MOI University and the University of Alicante (UA), coordinator of the ENRICH project.
The objective of the 2st workshop is to introduce available and relevant EU/ international funding programmes, successful proposal writing and alternative means of attracting capital for carrying out research activities. The ultimate goal is to become less dependent on restricted state / university fund, and become financially sustainable.
The workshop will be attended by more than 20 people: the ENRICH Higher Education Institution (HEI) partners from Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania, as well as two representatives from the Directorate of Research Management and Development (DRMD) of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology of Kenya.
Participants (top management and researchers, particularly in the energy field) will be involved in the establishment of three Science Technology and Innovation (STI) Support National Networks, one in each partner country (Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania) and will adapt the training content to local context so they can replicate the training received within their universities.
The workshop will be combined with a coordination meeting, in which UA will present the up-to-date workplan and goals of the ENRICH project and the next workshop that will take place in Tanzania.
The 1st ENRICH training workshop on “Research Support Offices and Policies & Procedures” was hosted at Makere University, Kampala, Uganda, last February 2015. It provided good practice examples and stimulated discussions around the following main topics: research evaluation, research management and innovation and was provided by the ENRICH EU partners, Glasgow Caledonian University and UA. The AVU launches a Certificate program in Renewable Energy in Senegal
The African Virtual University (AVU), one of the partners of the ENRICH project, has identified a lack of resources in Africa in an area crucial for the future, Renewable Energies (RE), and wants to build on its extensive experience for delivery of programs by launching its own certificate in Renewable Energy aiming at giving learners competencies in RE and strengthening those of professionals who are already working in the field. This will contribute to the development of Africa by strengthening its human capital.
The AVU Renewable Energy certificate has been developed in collaboration with relevant bodies of the Government of Senegal, the main higher education structures in the country and experts in the renewable energy sector.
The Certificate program has modules designed to address the lack of qualified technicians in the sector including:
- Photovoltaic solar energy
- Wind energy
- Micro hydroelectricity
- Entrepreneurship
- Management
The Certificate program is useful and appreciated because it provides skills and practical knowledge. From the first cohort, in 2013, of 49 graduate surveyed, 19 are working in the RE sector, and several have gone for a degree.
The program will start in May 2015.
